The birth of

Mountain Monk.

Nestled into the base of Victoria’s highest mountain, Mount Bogong, lies the picturesque township of Mount Beauty.

Back in 2017, after being closed for 2 years, Mount Beauty’s local watering hole reopened its doors as West Peak Hotel, giving the town our community pub back.

However, we weren’t satisfied. We needed to create something more to really make our pub a destination. Why not brew our own beer?

And that’s when our story began.

PALE ALE

Everyone remembers their first. The original Mountain Monk beer, first kegged and celebrated with pride on Boxing Day 2022, this American style pale ale is golden in colour with refreshing and balanced citrus fruits and a restrained malty backbone. To balance the malt, this easy drinking gem is dry hopped with classic American hops to produce zesty tropical fruit aroma perfect for summer sessions.
ABV: 4.5% IBU: 27

EKUANOT IPA

Pronounced ek-wa-not (well, we think so!), this bright orange Indian Pale Ale is designed to showcase a new favourite hop of the brewers. Generous whirlpool and dry hop additions give orange and herbal flavours, a stone fruit aroma with a peel and resin-like bitterness, amongst a balanced malt bill, to champion our Ekuanot.
ABV: 5.6% IBU: 38

HOPS: Ekuanot, Centennial, Citra & Simcoe
COLD IPA

A crisp, cold brewed Indian Pale Ale, designed for our hop additions to shine. Bright straw in colour, due to our light malt bill of pilsner and corn flakes, this lager-style IPA is bursting with flavours and aromas of melon, lime, coconut and tangerine, ready to enjoy during our warmer days.
ABV: 5.6% IBU: 48
MALTS: Pilsner & Corn Flakes
HOPS: Centennial, Ekuanot & Sabro
HAZY PALE MID

A full flavour hazy-style pale ale - but at a very sessionable mid strength alcohol content. Tropical and stone fruit hop aromas and flavours, with an approachable bittering. The healthy addition of oats, wheat and crystal grain gives a full mouth feel while staying easy on the ABV.

PASSIONFRUIT SOUR

Our first fruity sour! Brewers Mick and Punky love a great fruit sour, and this is the first of many to come. Utilising kettle souring brewing techniques, our lactobacillus strain delivers a lemon and lime tang, with pulped passionfruit from local fruiterers Vegitation and Melbourne’s Treetop Juices giving a refreshing pash!

PLUS FRESH PASSIONFRUIT JUICE
RASPBERRY SOUR

With a pinky red glow, our kettle soured beer has a generous dose of freshly pulped raspberries from Melbourne’s Tree Top Juices to give a refreshing berry tang for your sunny day sips.
ABV: 4.6% IBU: 4

PLUS FRESH PULPED RASPBERRY
GERMAN PILSNER

In the classic Pilsner style, this European lager has been fermenter conditioned for weeks to give a crisp, straw coloured beer. There are hints of honey and sweet biscuit in the malt flavour, while the noble Hallertau hops give this beer a lingering yet rounded bitterness. A European pilsner that monks would be proud of!

WEIZEN BIER

A traditional European wheat beer brewed to celebrate our brewery’s inaugural Oktoberfest weekend. With a classic banana and clove flavour and aroma, and a full mouth feel, our Weizen Bier is lightly hopped while containing floral notes from the use of Hallertau Blanc noble hops.

MONK DRAUGHT

A classic Australian style lager, brewed and conditioned in a dry and refreshing manner, for lovers of Aussie draught beers.

HONEYBIRD COFFEE MILK STOUT

A sweet dark stout combined with cold press ‘Velvet Assassin’ coffee by Mount Beauty local legend roasters Honeybird Coffee. Expect a smooth chocolate and sweet stout flavour, with hints of vanilla and nut, finished with a lingering mild coffee profile.

DARK ALE

A malted dark ale designed to be enjoyed again and again in the cooler months. With roasted coffee and dark chocolate notes, along with earthy flavour tones and a hint of orange from the beer’s hops, this dark has plenty of flavour for a mid strength ale.
